I know I have mentioned it before in my article on Cheap international calling from Costa Rica, however I think it's worth mentioning again here in my blog.

How cool is it that I can be sitting on the beach in Uvita and be calling my friends back home in Canada where it's -30. I know...I know...a little bit of rubbing it in never hurt anyone. Besides it gives them more incentive to come down for a visit which is always a pleasure. Every year since being here in Costa Rica, I have been blessed with family and friends visiting me every high season. See, the high season here in Costa Rica coincides with the winter season in the rest of North America, making this the perfect time for someone looking to escape the grasp of winter for awhile.

In my home I have another solution for calling home from Costa Rica. At home I use VoiP (voice over IP) which is when you use the internet connection instead of a regular land line for your telephone services. In some respects it's better than your standard option of a regular land line and is quickly becoming a strong contender in Canada and the US to compete against standard land lines. And it's cheaper!

Having a regular line in my home that has a local number to where you choose is a big bonus for me. Now family and friends can call me locally without any long distance. All for around $20/mth with other digital services like answering machine, call forwarding, callerID and more. Now of course I can respect this is nothing new to most of the world but you have to understand that here in the middle of the Costa Rican jungle this is FANTASTIC. It's like your family and friends are right there...anytime...its great.
