In 2005 after coming to Costa Rica, I made a spur of the moment decision to put together a web site in order to sell my house. It was then that I came up with the idea to have a FSBO site where people could sell their own homes privately. The site was registered as SellingCR.com
As the years past things began to change. The original idea was short lived and then the site changed from real estate to a Costa Rica news web site.
After a few short years passed the SellingCR site was experiencing incredible growth and popularity of which I had not planned for. And then there was the name…oh the name.
I was never really that pleased with the name and as the site changed and became more popular I began to dislike it even more. Not to mention how difficult it was becoming for my Costa Rica SEO efforts to try and rank a Costa Rica news site without any keywords whatsoever in the domain name.
Costa Rica News Site is born…
As the thought festered inside of me, I started to imagine changing it to a more relevant domain and starting over. Then reality hits me upside the head. What a job!
Try to imagine a web site of some 1000+ pages of content. All of it on one platform called Joomla! Now first you need to understand that when Google indexes your webpage, they assign credit to all of your indexed pages on their relevant subject material. Changing that essentially drops you off the map with Google because without proper guidance, ie: 301 redirects, for each and every page to their new location, your asking for trouble.

…well I went ahead and did it however at this time I did not change the CMS platform from Joomla! I merely changed the URL structure and site appearance. Not good enough.
A few months after the successful move over, I began to feel that Joomla! wasn’t the greatest CMS for my Costa Rica SEO efforts. So I did it again.
This time it was night and day. I had migrated to WordPress however , and this might prove stupid of me, I actually discarded all the old site and its content, for all new content and a new platform.
Costa Rica News Site was reborn!
Yes it is true that we are located out of the Southern Zone of the country however we now provide Costa Rica News for the entire country and are still experiencing exponential growth in ways we had never imagined.
