Starting 2012 With Lowest Inflation in 45 Years
In January 2012 the consumer price index rose just 0.17%. This is the lowest increase in the first month since January 1967, when it fell 0.78%.
Accumulated inflation in the last 12 months is 4.21%.
The low that recorded several major food for households in the first month of the year explains in part the slow growth of the indicator.
In that month, the most significant reductions (by weight variation and within the household budget) were the tomato, chili pepper, eggs and green beans.
In January, the most significant increases were higher education, onions, travel packages, attorney fees and domestic service.
