Cell Coverage Extends to Remote Areas of the Country
Just as a Tico in the Central Park of San Jose, this past Thursday a farmer passed through a town situated on the banks of the river San Juan Costa Rica while talking on his cell phone – you can make and receive cell phone calls from your home or farm in the region.
“The miracle has come, and we waited for many years,” described Gerardo Quirós, leader of the local Development Association, the arrival of the mobile phone in this secluded area of Costa Rica’s geography, was made possible by the installation of new towers by the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE).
The company’s technical team assembled the towers Thursday which are located behind the checkpoint at the Border Police – about 400 meters from the Nica army base in the border area.
Similar antennas are already installed in the community of Fatima, which will become operational in the course of this week.
The people of San Antonio and Trinity of Sarapiquí are now expecting ICE to “hook them up”.
