A shock of 14,400 volts killed yesterday Nelson Briceño Jimenez, after he touched a live wire.

The tragic event occurred at 1:30 p. m. in the district of Cariblanco in Sarapiquí, central canton of Alajuela, about five meters from the south side of the gas station Isla Bonita.

Briceno was working for a private company contracted by the Cooperative Electrification of San Carlos (Coopelesca) to replace poles and power lines.

The victim received a strong shock while he was about five feet high. At that moment, the man tried to change a lead wire.

Alvaro Chaverri, head of Corporate Relations for the cooperative, said that M & S Electrical Services has a policy to cover any mishap.

The Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) is investigating the case.
