A municipal engineer of Perez Zeledon, Álvaro Barrantes Leiva, was injured after being shot by a stranger when he left his home in the town of Villa Ligia.

The incident occurred at 6:40 a. m. Police said that Barrantes received two minor injuries, as the bullet grazed his arm and abdomen and was taken to Hospital Escalante Pradilla.

Initially the authorities of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) recommended to the municipal authorities to close access to the facilities of the municipal building, while completing the investigations.

City officials said they were frightened by this situation.
