Costa Rican National Boat Caught with 1,300 Kilos of Cocaine
A Costa Rican boat was caught in international waters with 1,300 kilos of cocaine in an operation which involved U.S. authorities, Colombians and nationals.
The boat “Maria Canela”, which is licensed for fishing activities, was apprehended by a Navy ship of the United States while sailing the Pacific Ocean.
The crew was made up of five Costa Ricans, one
and three Colombians, said yesterday the security minister, Mario Zamora Cordero.
“The detention of the ship is part of joint patrols between U.S. and Costa Rica and was intercepted near the Galapagos Islands” said Zamora.
Security Vice Minister, Celso Gamboa, identified the ticos surnames as Núñez, Moreira, Rivas, Zúñiga and Campos.
According to Zamora, the ship crews of the Navy are members of the Guard of the United States.
